Last night I took a scalpel and made some cuts on my website. Okay, to be fair, it was more like chainsaw. There was lots to prune.
Until the site picks up speed and membership, there's really no use for the social network and forum. They're not in use since no one there knows anyone else. Not to mention that updating buddypress into wordpress often turns into a headache. It's like a booby trap, or a gag gift in really poor taste.
The site-wide blogs are still up though. I didn't delete any of those and they're intact, I checked.
Another thing I added was a subscribe function. You type your email address in the box, hit the subscribe button and get my blog posts in your email. You have to go to your email and validate it and if you use it you might want to check your spam folder and mark it as safe since it's not a certified secure site yet.
I upgraded my hosting package to allow for secure login, secure email service, etc. Not sure how to go about integrating that feature but I'll get around to it. Secure login is when you see the little padlock in the address bar or in the bottom, right hand corner of your browser and the addresses look like https instead of http. I'll get around to tweaking around with it since Curiosity will get the best of me eventually and sloth will have to give way!
I'm still pecking away at the tutorial and now that buddypress has been tossed to the curb, it'll make it that much easier. wordpress really is a great blogging tool once you get familiar with all its features.
